An experienced NDIS cohort. We have a large and growing NDIS family. Many of our mentors regularly work with neurodivergent and NDIS-supported students and genuinely get it.
Same mentor, every session. No rotations. No re-explaining. Your child builds a real relationship with one consistent person in their corner.
Free rematch if it's not clicking. If the chemistry isn't there for any reason, we'll find someone better at no cost.
Personality-matched, not algorithm-matched. We learn how your child thinks and what they need, then hand-pick the mentor who'll actually connect with them.
A note on our team. Our mentors are recent graduates, not registered therapists or allied health professionals. We provide mentorship and skill development, not clinical services. Happy to complement existing supports.

NO OUT-OF-POCKET COST
How NDIS billing works with us.
We provide NDIS-funded capacity building support; delivered by patient, encouraging mentors who work around your child’s pace, learning style, and plan goals.
📋 Plan-managed
We work directly with your plan manager - they handle the invoices, you handle nothing. Provided the relevant capacity building budget is available in your child's plan, there is no out-of-pocket cost
💳 Self-managed
You pay per session and claim the full amount straight back from the NDIS. Self-managed participants aren't bound by price caps, and our rates are priced to ensure zero out-of-pocket cost.
📄 Service agreements
We generate a compliant NDIS service agreement before sessions begin, aligned to your child's goals and the relevant support categories.
📊 Progress reports
Our staff take detailed session notes after every lesson. Every 10 lessons, we compile these into a full progress report documenting goal progress in language your plan manager and the NDIA expect.
Provider transparency. NextStepAcademy is an unregistered NDIS provider. We are not a specialist therapy or clinical provider. Sessions are conducted by experienced screened mentors, not registered allied health professionals. We work with plan-managed and self-managed participants only.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions NDIS families always ask us.
Is NextStepAcademy a registered NDIS provider?
No, we are an unregistered NDIS provider. This means we can only work with plan-managed and self-managed participants, not agency-managed. Most NDIS families have plan-managed or self-managed funding and can access us without any issues. Not sure which you are? Just ask and we’ll check with your plan manager.
What NDIS support categories do you bill under?
Our services are delivered under Capacity Building support categories, primarily Improved Daily Living Skills and relevant Increased Social & Community Participation supports, depending on your child’s individual plan goals. We review each participant’s plan before creating a service agreement so billing is always aligned to what’s actually funded.
Are your mentors trained to work with NDIS participants?
Our mentors are experienced, high-achieving graduates, not registered therapists or allied health professionals. We have a large NDIS cohort and many of our mentors regularly support neurodivergent students. We’re honest about our scope: we provide mentorship and capacity building, not clinical intervention. If your child has existing clinical supports, we’re happy to work alongside them.
How does the First Lesson Guarantee work for NDIS families?
Try the first session. If your child isn’t connecting with their mentor for any reason, you don’t continue and no invoice is created. It costs your plan nothing. We’ll rematch if you’d like to try again, also at no cost. However, if you do wish to continue the initial session is billed.
What do your progress reports include?
Every 10 sessions we provide a detailed written report covering your child’s progress toward each NDIS goal, sessions delivered, skills developed, and recommendations going forward. These are written to support plan reviews and shared with you and your plan manager or support coordinator.
How quickly can we get started?
We’ll call within 24 hours of your booking. Once we’ve confirmed your plan details, we can usually match a mentor and schedule a first session within 3–5 days. The service agreement is handled before sessions begin.
Online or in-person - what's the difference?
Both are equally effective, it just comes down to preference. Online lessons happen via our purpose-built platform on any device (no app required). In-person workers come to your home anywhere across NSW at a time that suits you. Many families switch between the two as their schedule changes — your dedicated worker stays the same either way.
