Ready to share your knowledge as a tutor
If you’re ready to share your knowledge and guide the next generation, we’d love to hear from you.
At NextStepAcademy, we care about more than just marks. We don't choose tutors for academic achievement alone, we look for mentors, role models who inspire confidence, motivation and resilience, and bring out the very best in every student they teach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Im still in school can I become a tutor?
We love your enthusiasm! At NextStepAcademy, all tutors must have finished Year 12 before coming on board. If you’re still in school, especially in Year 12, we encourage you to submit an application and let us know. This way, we can add you to our waiting list and reach out as soon as you graduate.
I’ve just moved to Australia, can I tutor with you?
In most cases, we ask that tutors have completed their schooling in Australia so they’re confident with the local curriculum and requirements. That said, this isn’t a strict rule, we review every application individually, and you’re welcome to apply if you believe you’re a good fit.
What additional resources do I receive?
When you join NextStepAcademy, you’ll have access to a wide range of resources designed to make tutoring easier and more effective. This includes our textbooks, subject-specific notes, and lesson resources developed by experienced tutors.
You’ll also have ongoing access to our tutor dashboard for lesson management, plus direct support from our team whenever you need it.
How often do I receive payment?
Payments are processed after each lesson you complete. The payment is transferred to your bank account within 2-3 business days. This way, you’re paid reliably and quickly for the work you do, no waiting weeks for a paycheck.
Do I need to find my own students?
No, that’s our job. At NextStepAcademy, we handle all the marketing, parent enquiries, and student matching for you. Once you’re onboarded, we’ll connect you with students that fit your availability, location, and subjects of expertise.
That means you can focus on what you do best, tutoring, without the stress of finding clients yourself.
What Qualifications Do I Need to Have?
To become a NextStepAcademy tutor, you’ll need to show us academic excellence and proven strength in your subject area.
All tutors must also hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWC) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every student.
Where do lessons take place?
Most of our tutoring is one-on-one and happens in the student’s home. Occasionally, a student may prefer meeting at a local library or school, but the vast majority of lessons are held in their home environment.
We’ll only match you with students who live nearby (within about 8km), and you’re always free to accept or decline lesson offers.
How many hours can I expect?
On average, our tutors work with around five students per week, and we aim to help you reach that point as quickly as possible.
Many tutors choose to take on more, though we generally cap it at about ten students per week to ensure balance and quality.
While we can’t promise a set minimum number of hours as it depends on demand in your area, it’s very uncommon for tutors to go without regular students.
Once you’re on board, we’ll do everything we can to connect you with your first four students quickly.
Can I choose which subjects to tutor?
Absolutely. When you join our system, you’ll nominate the subjects you feel confident teaching ranking them in terms of confidence.
From there, you’ll only be matched with students in those areas, so you’ll always be tutoring within your strengths.
I’ve never tutored before, can I still apply?
If you meet our requirements, you’re encouraged to apply. With the resources and support we provide, you’ll walk into your first session feeling confident and prepared.
